Laughter is one of the best antidotes to stress, depression, and anxiety. It feels good to laugh! When we laugh, our bodies release endorphins which give us a sense of well-being and happiness. Humor is also an essential part of human interaction. Laughter has so many benefits that it should not be ignored in this world that often takes itself too seriously.
Think about that last big laugh you had. That one that you actually thought to yourself, “I am extra right now.” What did you feel? Did it make your cheeks hurt from smiling so much, or were you doubled over in laughter and had to take a moment before continuing with whatever task you were on. Laugh is good for the body because it helps improve blood circulation, which keeps our organs functioning well.
Laughing has also been shown to increase antibodies that ward off illness by boosting immune system function. One study found an association between fewer hospitalizations for respiratory infections and higher humor rates among older adults. (Where I read that I don’t remember). Haha.
Another health benefit is that laughing boosts creativity! When we laugh, not only are endorphins released, but there’s also increased oxygen flow into the brain leading to better thinking processes.
We all could use more comedy in our relationships. It is some fantastic therapy for our energy in our day to day routine. I know I am always searching for laughter through a joke and a smile from family and friends every day.
Laughter is so contagious, and when we are in a humorous mood, all the mental negativity is gone, and we just feel good.
